An Exciting Day at NASCAR for Our High School Students!
Student Spotlight
We’re excited to highlight the creativity, hard work, and talents of our VCCS students! In this Student Spotlight, we’re showcasing a special piece of student work that reflects their effort, creativity, and commitment to excellence.
The NASCAR Hall of Fame was an exciting experience. This was a field trip for the Victory Christian Center high school on September 30, 2026. The first thing that stood out to me was listening to a lecture about the physics behind constructing an optimal race car. For example, the front side of the car had to be low, and as you go toward the back of the car, it would gradually rise up. This simple design of the car allows for air to flow smoothly with minimal friction.
Now, it was up to us to construct our own racecars in just 20 minutes with limited materials. For me, this was the highlight of the trip because of the engineering aspect of it. Our team, which was Caleb, Khoa, Xavier and me, used a small white foam board, wheels, wooden rods as axles, tape, rubber bands, and a battery controlled fan to propel the machine. The hardest part about this project was taping the axles of the car on perfectly straight, but it was smooth sailing after that. In fact, from what I saw, our car finished first or second out of roughly 15 cars.
I would recommend this trip to other students, especially those with an interest in any part of STEM. The race car challenge was a test to see if you could work as a team, identify and solve problems, and execute in a short timeframe. Even if you are not huge on STEM, most people can get around the NASCAR simulation race which is another event that stood out to me for its realistic controls and hilarious crashes. However, it did feel like the group that went before me in the simulation had twice as much time as we did. Overall, the NASCAR field trip was a worthwhile experience.
