Kings Compete in First Round of the 2012 NCISAA State Playoffs

The Lady Kings hosted Asheville Christian in the first round

of the NCISAA Tournament. The game remained close throughout the first quarter. During the 2nd quarter the Kings gained a small lead. Asheville Christian later tied first at 18 all then 20 all.

5:46 left in the 2nd Quarter - Asheville takes a small lead; VCCS scores a goal from the field to tie the lead for the third time in the quarter: 22 all.  The teams went into halftime 28 all.

3rd Quarter (6:54 left in the quarter) - VCCS began to distance themselves from their opponents gaining 3 more points to lead by 5 (36-31). The Kings scored 1 point at the foul line and 2 points from the rebound after the free throw to extend their lead (39-31). The home team ended the 3rd leading by 9 (49-40).

4th Quarter: Entering the 4th quarter with the biggest lead of the game, the Lady Kings gained momentum and continued to extend their lead. (53-41). The team continued on a steady and successful run ending the game with a 15 point lead Final score VCCS 64 Asheville 49.

img_4544VCCS VARSITY BOYS VS. COASTAL CHRISTIAN
Game two of the night VCCS Varsity Boys hosted Coastal Christian. The game started off very fast paced, with both vying for an early lead. The Kings gained a small lead (6-4); Coastal eventually tied (6 all). The Kings rallied and were able to secure a ten point lead at the end of the 1st (16-6). The Kings extended their lead by 12 early in the 2nd- (20-8).

 

21-12, Kings lead - The Kings and their opponents both stalled in scoring, holding at 21-14. Coastal scored on the foul line to cut the Kings lead to six (21-15) with just over a minute left. A wild struggle for the balled caused a turnover in the Kings favor. The team drew a foul, but failed to score; the teams went into halftime 24-15 Kings Lead.

3rd Quarter /  4th Quarter - The teams resumed play in the 3rd quarter, picking up where they left off before halftime: fast paced and intense. Each team scored in the third 27-19. The kings continued to pull away gaining a 13 point lead (42-29). Coastal Christian pushed back shrinking the Kings lead to ten points (42-32). The team (Coastal) did not give up easily rallying back to shrink the lead to just 5 points (46-41). The Kings managed to hold off their opponents with a final score of 51-44. Let's Go Kings!!! Both teams will advance further in the NCISAA 2A State Tournament in Asheville, NC on Thursday - Saturday, February 23rd-25th. Opponents, location and game times are TBA.
