| VCCS Students Participate in Operation Christmas Child Community Celebration
Processing Center of Operation Christmas Child today. The event was open to the community and it encouraged participants to bring their shoe box gifts to drop off, as well. Among those in attendance were Franklin Graham (keynote speaker) and other donors who desired to celebrate together to kick off the 2011 Operation Christmas Child season. For VCCS elementary students, the outreach drive began Monday, November 28th and ended on yesterday, Monday, December 5th. Some of the items donated in each box were small cars, small balls, small dolls, small stuffed animals, jump ropes, slinky pens, pencils & sharpeners, crayons, writing pads, paper, coloring books, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mild bar soap, washcloths, combs, brushes, hard candy, mints, ball caps, toys and jewelry. Each classroom, prepared a box to give towards the organization, but there were some students who went a step further Other speakers hailed from around the world, including Russia and Trinidad. They shared about the impact that Operation Christmas Child had made on them as children. There were also musical performances by the United Faith Christian Academy and other local artist. According to Samaritan's Purse, they hope to collect more than 8 million shoe box gifts this holiday season, including 5 million in the United States, to send to needy children in some 100 countries. Two million gifts will be processed by volunteers at the warehouse here in Charlotte, North Carolina. A handful of VCCS Elementary Students participated in a Community Celebration event held at the Charlotte
and decided to pack and contribute at least one box themselves. Among those students were Isaac Abbott, Jaelyn Colbert, Christian McCain, Avari Mason, Braylen McCain, Leila Morrow, Nathaniel Beasley, Roman McLain, Joshua Hill, Assiyah Mitchell, Abraham Williams, Zachary Reid, and Ceasar White, IV, with VCCS kindergarten student Jaelyn Colbert donating a remarkable 20 boxes to the cause. These students along with the Junior Student Council attended this year's Operation Christmas Child Community Celebration.
