he will say, “drawing.” Hamilton’s artwork landed him first-place honors in the US Airways Patriotic Art Contest and was presented at the US Airways Freedom Breakfast held on Veterans Day at the Blake Hotel. The winning artwork was featured on the program cover at the breakfast, sponsored by the Carolinas Freedom Foundation. “The eagle, draped with a worn American flag, signifies both the struggle and the triumph of the many veterans who have served our country,” said Victory art teacher Rodricko Hall. “I could see it was something special----Donald is a talented artist,” he continued. The Carolinas Freedom Foundation was founded in response to former prisoner of war and retired Air Force Col. Quincy Collins’ concerns about the lack of an organization in the area to promote patriotism. The foundation was established for the specific purpose of promoting patriotism. Hamilton has been drawing since preschool. “When I draw, I think of dreams I’ve had, so I am trying to put my dreams and thoughts in pictures,” he said. Hamilton and his family will receive either $1,000 in US Airways gift cards for use in purchasing airline tickets to Washington, DC or a $1,000 US Savings Bond, whichever they prefer. The Victory Christian Art Department will also receive a check for $250 for use in purchasing art supplies.
