Christopher "Brock" Fleming  | VCC Alumnus, Class of 2007

b.fleming"Being at Victory helped build the foundation of my relationship with Christ.  At Victory, it's not like you have to be perfect to go there, because the staff and faculty love and accept everyone. They don't force God down your throat, but they surround you with teachers who genuinely love God and love people. The teachers aren't just there to collect a paycheck. They actually believe in you and push you to be better than you think you are."

Kandra Johnson | VCCS Alumnus, Class of 2002

JOHNSON_KANDRA-141"I am a mother of two, and I am currently employed with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Department.

Attending Victory Christian Center School was very essential in my development as a woman with standards. Between Victory and my mother, I have developed a drive for excellence and a thirst to constantly improve my relationship with God.

In college, I was very well rounded and did not succumb to many of the temptations others did because I knew these opportunities would not be profitable for me. I would like to say I did everything right, but I did not and, in fact, for a very brief moment I experienced depression because I became a mother at a young age.

Even though things did not go as I had planned, I remain assured of who I was in Christ, which gives me strength and confidence to handle the affairs of life today. The strong Christian foundation I received at Victory and the constant reinforcement from my mother and the Word of God have helped me stay strong and has given me hope for the future.

The teaching staff at Victory is a group of people who know how to love. Although each one of them planted seeds of greatness in me, I especially remember Miss McCullough and Ms. Parker, who motivated me not to feel sorry for myself. They constantly reminded me that no matter how hard I may fall, God will always pick me up and love me in a way no one else can. That, to me, has made all the difference in my life.

Although I am still a work in progress, the constant love and support from Victory, Mr. Pratt (the principal), my teachers and my mother have propelled me through life. I hope you will consider Victory as an investment in your child’s life."

"Going to VCCS was the best thing that could have happened for me during that time of my life, and it was the best decision my mother made for me. I was able to graduate on time [despite earlier challenges in my academic career at public school], I developed a better focus on my future, life, goals… [Even today] I find myself drilling it into younger generations. All the friends I hung out with, have either been murdered, in and out of jail or have many warrants out on them. I thank God, that He intervened in my life and turned things around.

The spiritual structure is strong and everything that is done at VCCS, is lined up with God's Word. So it steers students into that frame of thinking. In fact, I apply some of these lessons and concepts in the athletic realm, as I operate from the position of a [basketball] coach.

I received two job offers for the simple fact that the employers saw VCCS on my resume. So that alone, speaks volumes because the employers knew what type of person they were getting. It also prepared me because teachers, bosses or any administrator I have faced has not been as tough as what I learned to embrace at VCCS. The teachers were tough, did not back down and you had to earn your grades. It helped in the workforce as well because you learn a different approach towards your boss, co-workers, issues that come up, deadlines etc.

To a parent considering putting their child in VCCS, I would say to "Truly consider this because although initially the child may not like it, with all the change, they will grasp post-high school. It will do a "work" on them spiritually, mentally and academically."

Sanchia Chapman | VCCS Alumna, Class of 1999

sanchiachapman"VCCS was like a family away from home. Due to the size of the school and the student-teacher ratio, you can't get lost in the crowd which happens to sometimes in larger schools. This allowed for more accountability spiritually and academically. I had a great time with sports as well, being the first female to graduate from the school with a basketball scholarship.

Upon entering college, I was very appreciative of my education, finding that I was very well prepared. I didn't struggle with the transition at all and excelled in all of my classes. In fact, if I remember correctly, I only made two B's my entire college career. I quickly earned the respect of my instructors by excellence in my work as well as my boldness in stating my beliefs and opinions without hesitation and with conviction.

Upon my last semester, I had several professors urging me to continue on to grad school and even offering to write recommendations or use contacts they had to get me in an ivy league graduate business program. Although I did not sense that was the way I needed to go at that time, it is just a testament to God's favor and the tremendous influences I had in my background (VCCS playing a major role)that shaped me into that person who was able to excel in that manner.

In this day and age, Christian education is more of a necessity. VCCS will endeavor as always to minister to your child as a WHOLE person which is not found in public and many other private institutions. Value your child as a whole person being influenced and shaped everyday by the people and things in their environment. As parents we must do our parts to supplement the values and teachings we give our children at home with people and environments that support those same values and teachings. That is VCCS."

Roy Huff  | VCCS Alumnus, Class of 2004

"I was fortunate enough to get a scholarship to go to VCCS the first year it opened and graduated with the second graduating class in 1994. Although it took longer than expected and I took some unexpected paths along the way, my dream of becoming a meteorologist has been achieved. I now work as a research meteorologist at the University of Hawaii. I work on predicting volcanic smog based on weather patterns in Hawaii. I owe a lot to the opportunity at VCCS of having a quality education. I was afforded a safe environment with a quality support system. For me, this was especially important because of my unique set of challanges including extreme poverty and other issues.

VCCS is a great school that forces students to achieve their full potential in a safe environment away from the influences of today's narcassistic society. VCCS stood head and shoulders above the rest in regards to both academics and character development because it taught me determination, motivation, patience...It has contributed both to my confidence and positive self-esteem."

Monet Roberts  | VCCS International Alumna, Class of 2009

"In terms of the workload at times, you'll probably feel like 'why is Victory giving me all this work'?! But when you get to college you're like 'ok, this is nothing...I'm use to this'. So when you get the workload in college you don't feel overwhelmed because Victory has already prepared you and explained to you, that this is what it's going to be like in college.

I would say to parents that are considering putting their child into VCCS, it would probably be the best decision that you can make for your child's life. For me the financial aspect was always a question for me, I didn't always know how I was going to pay my tuition, but...we got it done. And at the end of the day, I feel like I couldn't have been in a better place. Your child will thank you, and you'll definitely thank yourself because Victory places a very positive influence on your child and your child couldn't be in a better environment."
